| In 1999 Bairstow Eves celebrated
a centenary year with origins dating back to 1899 when
John Bairstow originally formed the company in the county
of Essex. After many years of successfully operating within
the Essex environment Bairstow Eves plc merged with Mann
& Co. plc in March 1985. This new enlarged company
was acquired by Hambro bank and subsequently Hambro plc
was formed
In October 1994 Hambro Countrywide acquired the Nationwide
Estate Agency network of offices creating a number of
individual trading subsidiaries throughout the UK including
Bairstow Eves North East which was launched in January
1995 with 14 offices in Tyneside, Northumberland, Teesside,
Durham and North Yorkshire
February 2000 saw the addition of a new branch at Whickham
and also during the same year our specialist New Homes
department was created
As part of our ongoing strategy for continuous improvement
to develop customer care, in June 2001 a dedicated Customer
Care department was established with the specific objective
of ensuring the highest level of customer service delivery
therefore placing Bairstow Eves North East at the forefront
of estate agency customer care
In 2002 Countrywide plc acquired
over 100 offices from Friends Provident Group further
adding to the future growth and expansion of our operation
In 2004 Countrywide plc acquired over 300 offices from Bradford and Bingley further adding to the operation and
extending the number of branches to over 1000.
