Bairstow Eves London North - History

Our longstanding success in Estate Agency is a tribute to the hard work and professionalism we have always brought to the property business.

Bairstow Eves London (North) have earned a reputation for getting results, as well as the satisfaction and recommendation of generations of local people.

‘Local’ originally meant ‘Metropolitan Essex’. The founders of the original practice were Mr Charles Eves, who commenced business at Goodmayes, Essex in 1899, and Mr Stanly Bairstow, who set up office in Ilford from 1926.

In 1953, the two practices amalgamated under the name of Bairstow Eves & Son and opened their first sales office in Brentwood in 1956.

The emphasis they put on client service and convenience is evident in the partners’ early advertising.

In the Ilford official guide for 1934, Mr Bairstow promises his clients ‘speedy sales of properties offered at Market Prices Assured’. At the same time in the local paper, Eves Auction Mart (Cash Advance if Desired) advertises such bargains as a ‘substantial residence, close to trams, 3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, 2 wc’s, electric and gas for an unmissable £190 freehold!

Naturally, we cannot match such prices today!

Over the years, our expansion from a single office to a network of more than 700 associated offices nationwide has equipped us to serve our clients even more effectively. It enables us to offer wider and better sales coverage, which in turn attracts more and better offers from potential purchasers. It also gives us an intimate knowledge of property values, availability and demand throughout the area, invaluable intelligence for buyers and sellers.

Few other local agents have offered so much for so long!
